Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja are not the same thing
The mix-up is common, especially among recent arrivals. Orihuela Costa is the coastal part of the Orihuela municipality and belongs administratively to Orihuela, though the town itself lies inland, well away from the sea. Torrevieja is a separate municipality: it split off from Orihuela back in the nineteenth century.
They have plenty in common: both sit in the Vega Baja comarca, share one coastline and most everyday infrastructure. For us they are simply neighbouring points on the map — exchanging in Torrevieja and the Vega Baja runs on the same rules as here.
